Enabling the public sector to save money, innovate and make more effective policy decisions by using space technology and data

Making efficiencies using satellites “it’s not rocket science”: A discovery day for Local Authorities

Space for Smarter Government Programme (SSGP) and the DCLG Local Digital Programme are hosting a Discovery Day on 13 March, which aims to accelerate the uptake of satellite-enabled services to make efficiencies and improve local services.

The event will:

  • Present the basics of satellite application opportunities for local services
  • Showcase how satellite data is already being used by local authorities including in Exeter
  • Prioritise local authorities' needs for satellite applications
  • Co-design a road map to improve local services and save money using satellite-enabled services

The day will offer local government the opportunity to explore ways for local authorities to collaborate with peers and with the UK Space Agency and the Satellite Applications Catapult.

NOTE: This is a public sector event for senior managers in local government from areas such as Digital, Planning, Environment & Biodiversity, Transport, Emergency planning, ICT, Business Change / Transformation and Customer Services. Since the day is primarily for senior local authority representatives, there are very limited space industry places. It is vital we maintain a neutral position.
