ESA Integrated Applications Promotion (IAP) programme
The European Space Agency’s Integrated Applications Promotion programme is dedicated to the development of operational services to meet the needs of a wide range of users through the use of different types of space assets. IAP places strong emphasis on commercially sustainable applications, where close partnerships with customers and end-users can help foster the improved utilisation of existing space capacity and capability.
Overview: ESA’s IAP programme aims to stimulate commercially sustainable service development based on the use of the most appropriate technologies drawn from both space systems and terrestrial / in-situ systems, using a service delivery model most appropriate to the user’s needs. One or more space assets can be used, typically Satellite Communications, Earth Observation, Satellite Navigation or technologies developed for Human Space Flight.
Competitions: The IAP programme has a permanently open call which offers different levels of matched funding depending on the type of organisation involved. The projects can be at a feasibility or demonstration phase. Timescales for IAP projects are typically 9 months for Feasibility Studies, and 1-3 years for Demonstration Projects.
Open calls on specific topics: Periodically ESA offers open calls on specific topics that are usually full funded. Details on all such opportunities can be found here.
